Welcome to FTE. When you get a chance, look into KCTurbo's. Charlie Fish is the owner and a real nice guy to talk to as well. He offers a turbo that's very similar to the Gtp38r, but with upgraded mod's that have made it even better than a Garrett 38r, he calls it a stage2 KC-38r. Also, he currently has Beta Testers running a new line of turbos that he developed for our trucks. These turbos bolt in the stock location to the factory uppipes, exhaust, and air box. With your mods your probably looking at the 363 turbo. If you have a FB account, he tends to post up info about his turbos and the current beta tester over there. He just released these Turbo's to the beta testers last week, so the feed back is currently kind of limited. Should be a game changer for us 7.3 guys.
If your e99 still has the stock turbo setup, you may want to look into moving up to the 99.5-03 setup, better air flow going in. You'll need new up-pipes (but they won't leak), a new pedestal (can get a EBPV delete, so it won't leak), intake crossover, and the intake manifolds (billet ones don't leak). The injectors and HPOP you already have. Link
And welcome to FTE, where we help you spend your money!!
I've been looking into updating my e99 a lot lately. I've had it 7 years now, and I've had every single one of those components off at least once, but all separately and I wasn't thinking of updating to the late 99 at the time. I did the bellowed up-pipes and EBPV pedestal delete, but for e99.
You can find lots of stock setup parts for the late 99-03 engines on ebay / craigslist if you're thinking of going this route. There are lots of aftermarket components to replace everything, but then you're spending lots of coin. Just depends on your priorities.
I agree w SaintITC. I missed the early 99 portion of your post. I would look at upgrading to the later SD parts and Turbo. Much more options to choose from too.
so to upgrade to a later 99 i would need to replace the up pipes and the intake manifolds then I could bolt up a stock later 99 or have many more options? Is that correct?
Intake plenums, spider, turbo pedestal, some how modify the down pipe to reach the new required height of the turbo, and up pipes.
I have heard of folks getting the stock downpipe to reach, as it's thinner and has just enough room to pull up without hitting the trans crossmember, but whether it ever hits as the engine moves about I don't know.
Also add to this list the boots & clamps between the spider and plenums, and the intake boot and clamp from the turbo to the air filter housing. You'll also need to plug the AIH (Air Intake Heater) hole in the spider as the e99 doesn't have that.
