so my drivers side outer cv joint boot has the slightest hole in it for the past few years. It lets some grease out every so often. What have you guys done to repair it? Ive clean the surface really well and tried silicone, but no go. Im trying to eliminate taking the whole joint apart just to replace the boot. I do believe you have to take the whole bearing out to pull the cv joint correct?

I'm going off memory, but a few years ago my outer CV boot tore on my Expedition. Didn't have time to repair myself so I took it to a local shop to replace the boot. What I was told was that by the time I pay for labor for the to remove the shaft, a new boot, and reinstall it wasn't that much more overall to replace the entire half shaft. In addition they mentioned that the spines on the shafts wear over time so their recommendation was to replace. Being the person I am, I had them do both sides as I like to repair most suspension and drivetrain items in pairs. That may have been overkill, though...
I had an outer boot torn on my 2001 and I was informed by my mechanic that there is no boot available to use. They said that the entire shaft would need to be replaced and even if a boot was available, they would have recommended replacing it due to contamination getting into the joint that would cause it to fail.
