When I came home from the service the ex and I lived in an apartment with only a window A/C, every room was a different temp.

Yeah that is how my house is.. I have one AC in the Living room where I am mostly and my bedroom.. Have to be comfortable to sleep

The A/C was in the living room, had to use a fan to push the air down the hall to the second bedroom.

I could do that if the bedroom was down here..
Hard to do that up stairs and around a corner...LOL

Have you priced getting central A/C? Probably be expensive because you'll need all new duct work. Window units are more cost effective for you.

I think around here it would be between 15K and 20K
Figured I could maybe save some money when Bobby finished HVAC school and got a job, but he hasn't gotten a job yet so he can get the time need for certification

That's going to be a tough job running ducts and returns through an older home.

It wouldn't be that bad if they use 2 heat exchangers.. One in the attic and the other in the basement
The attic is pretty much open at the moment..
basement would be trickier cause of the steam pipes to the radiators
