Hi all, new here in hope of getting answers and some feed back from enthusiasts out there.
Recently bought a 1991 F150 XLT Lariant 4.9 with 60,000 miles. With small issues; one of them being the passenger door. The button to unlock and lock did not work bought a new lock actuator (motor) and still nothing. I tested to see if there is current going through the cables, and there is. My question is how to determine if there is enough current going through the wire or maybe the button is bad, maybe bad connection to the ground somewhere.
Also, from the driver side the button works but, only to lock it does not unlock.
Hope to get some answer as I have both door panels taken off the truck.

See if the ground is loose because that will change how it works
How did you measure the current in the cables? Put a DVOM on the wire at the actuator connector and see if you have 12 volts . It sounds like the switch is bad. Check for voltage at the actuator in both switch positions. Does the passenger switch work?

just measure current with a tester light. I will measure the current with a volt meter. If the measure voltage is 12 on the connector that means the switch is bad correct ?
I am not sure if it works or not once I press it i can hear it wanting to work. My guess the witch is bad if the current voltage is 12
I'm not sure. You press which button (driver or passenger) button in what direction (lock or unlock) and you get 12V at what connector? The connector at the actuator or at the switch?
I believe Rustbucket was asking about the circuit ground, not the battery ground.
Disconnect the actuator connector and place the volt meter leads at the connector. When you hit the lock\unlock button I believe you should see the meter change to 12v. If it does, you have voltage to the actuator.
Unfortunately I do not have a wiring diagram here available, so I can't tell you what wire color codes are what on this circuit.
