Transmission shifting problem
My truck: 1994, F-150 XLT, 5.8L, E4OD, 4x4 electric shift transfer case, 109,300 miles, original owner.
Repair History: No major repairs other than power steering gearbox, cruise control module, changed transmission fluid at 60,000 with synthetic fluid, regular maintenance.
Truck always ran fine with the exception of the occasional hard shift from 1st to 2nd took it to the dealer when new they said there was nothing wrong with it so I just lived with it. More recently I have noticed it taking a few more seconds to start after sitting for a while. Once you start it then turn it off it will start without hesitation. Also when cold, stepping on the throttle there sometime is a sputtering, then it catches and runs fine.
Three weeks ago I had to change out the battery but everything was still good. I decided to replace the gear shifter boot. So I took the off the bezel, R&R the shifter lever and reinstalled everything. Then the following day I went to drive my truck and everything went to crap. Shifting from P to R it would slam into gear, shifting from R to D it would also slam, from P to D it would slam. Driving it down the road it would shift hard throughout the gear range.
I ran a KOEO and got codes 654 and 111. 654 Transmission Range (TR) sensor indicating not in PARK during Self –Test, and 111 System Pass.
I disconnected the battery for 15 minutes then went for a test drive still slamming into gear.
Well, I read many threads on the E4OD transmission problems and all I can find is the shifting issue 1st to 2nd, my issue is from the moment it leaves park to reverse or drive.
Any help would be appreciated, I really don't want to take it to shop when i can do it myself. I have read everything from it could be VSS, TPS, and MLPS and none of them make sense to me.

Thanks for the help.

At the very least check the alignment before replacing it. Could be a simple fix.
