Test drove an X today. Meeting up again on Thursday to get title and swap keys. Not quite as nice as my 2002 was, but still in better shape than most trucks its age I've seen up here.
2000 V-10 XLT
90,xxx miles
2 small spots of rust (quarter size) on doors and some scale on roof.
Amazingly all the electric stuff works, motor is super quiet, shifts nice. Previously used as a 1st Responder vehicle, so has holes drilled in console and random toggle switch on dash. It does have the infamous axle slap up front, and something rattling in the axle area. I think 1, if not both Auto hubs are frozen and it needs u-joints. Maybe some sway bar links. you know, all the normal Excursion easy peasy stuff
We are straight trading my 1986 Franken F-250 for his X.
The truck I'm trading for the X.
1986 F-250
5.8/ZF5 with D60 Swap on 35's
90% rust/rot free. I spent 2 weeks welding new sheet-metal in. She's ugly at the moment, but solid as hell.
That's the best price.. keys and title. What are some of your plans for it? Welcome back into the game!
a year ago I bought a 1995 reg cab F-250 with see through floorboards and no cab corners. welded her up and traded for the '86. That '95 cost me $400. after buying a welder and a 10.25" rear axle and some replacement body panels...I think I've spent about $1000 or so money wise. TOTAL! and lots of labor hours, but those are free
future plans...I am probably going to re-perform most of the mods I did to the 2002.
Personally not a fan myself. I learned (or am still learning) that it's easier to start with a canvas that is perfect and finish it off how you want rather than trying an ill formed canvas to try to express yourself on.

Define perfect? What's perfect for one may not be for another. Personally when shopping I look for the trim pkg, engine, transmission, color...etc I want and I look for the cleanest stock vehicle I can. I don't trust other people's mods in 99% of the cases, plus they typically aren't what I'm into.
Trying to define "perfect" is just like trying to define "Normal" it's impossible.
Well it's a 3rd vehicle...a toy if you will. And as long as the 4x4 works this Winter I can take my sweet time fixing it up. Want to keep my Challenger out of the salt. Only things wrong I've identified are common maintenance issue for the most part. We all know how the D50 on these likes repairs
I'm not going to carry a car note for a 17-18yrs old rig. Hell I have issues even thinking about financing a 5yr old rig. I've seen the prices that some have paid for these. This rig effectively cost me $1,000. I'm light years ahead of someone else paying premium for a "perfect" vehicle. I was just reading a thread last night where a fellow enthusiast spent $14k on a 7.3 with 200+k miles. And has since spent another $6k in repairs. And his was in damn good condition.
Were this a primary vehicle for me...maybe I'd view it differently
