I have a 1974 f100 2wd with front disc brakes. I'm trying to bring it back to life but it has been a journey so far. After I got it running I tried to move it but it would not move. After jacking up the truck I noticed that the drivers side front wheel could not move. I looked at the brakes and the piston of the caliper was all the way out. I thought because the truck sat so long it had frozen or a bad caliper. I replaced the caliper on both sides and bleed the brakes. When I bleed the drivers side I opened the valve and the brake fluid shot out like someone was on the pedal (which no one was). As of now the brake drags on the drivers side again like before and feels like the brake is engaged. After a while the caliper will retract and most of the time, I can move the truck but as soon as I hit the brakes it locks again. I'm thinking for some reason the caliper gets pressure but won't bleed off the pressure once the pedal is up. Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

Check the brake soft lines. Look for swelling especially when braking. Does is have a proportioning valve? If so, was it set correctly for bleeding and for normal operation?
Old brake hoses mainly deteriorate from the inside. The lining starts to slough off the jacketing inside the hose and it blocks or restricts the inner passageway for the fluid to travel through.
When this happens, it usually acts as a 'check valve' to keep fluid from returning to the MC, when the brake pedal is released. So, pressure stays applied to the caliper (or drum wheel cylinders) until the pressure slowly bleeds off to release the brakes. Once you step on the brake pedal again, pressure is re-applied and the brakes stay locked after you get off the brake pedal.
It's power- and thank you I did not even notice the iPad did that.
No problemo.
I had the same problem with locked up calipers. Upon brake application, the booster wouldn't release the pressure until the engine was shut off and the vacuum allowed to bleed off.
So I got some time to work on the truck today I did the master and the booster and the soft brake hose and having the same problem. It's just the drivers side. I was looking and saw what I think is a proportioning valve. The rubber at the end was is all falling off with a rod sticking out of it so I pulled or pushed on it and the truck rolled around. Is this a proportioning valve? Can someone educate me on how it works. If it is bad would it make a caliper lock up ? Thank you
