I have a 1982 f100 w/only 60,000 miles. It has only been owen by my father and myself. My father passed in August, this is when i got the truck. I don't know much about what has been done to the truck. I have a brake problem. It has disc brakes on the front and drum on the rear. It does not have power brakes. About 9-10 months ago the master cylinder was changed out because it was leaking. It has new pads and shoes on it. The problem is that when you apply the brakes the drivers side fron locks up. I recently replaced the front pads and made sure the the sliders on the calipers were properly lubed. Thought maybe that was the problem but it wasn't. I bleed each wheel starting with the right rear, left rear, right front, then left front. The right front still locks. Is there something else to bleed besides each wheel,. I don't think the brakes have been right since the master cyclinder was changed. thanks gary
I have seen on other vehicles where the caliper will not release after your foot is off the brake. This may be the problem. Jack it up and check that out.
The problem was the caliper. Since they were only 16.00 bucks i went a head and replaced both of them along with the brake lines, anothe 15.00 each. After i replaced these item the front brakes worked great. BUT, the brake brakes now locked. I went ahead and replaced both rear brake drums and shoes. Total of 80 bucks. Well all is good now. I have great brakes and they should last along time since the vehicle probalaly will not be drove but 3-5 thousand miles a year.
I have an 82 F100 with non power brakes. The front brakes not releasing has been the biggest problem I have had with this truck in the 24 years I have owned it. Mine seems to always be the passenger front. A few years ago after they hot I replaced the master cylinder, calapers, rubber lines and pads. They worked fine untill a few weeks ago when I was in some stop and go traffic. After I got it home I removed both callipers , removed the rust and lubed them. Reassembled and bleed the lines. They are alright for now. I have some dry lub that I use on my table saw gears that I used on the caliper slides. I don't have any cure except to stay on keeping the caliper slides clean and lubed.
