Battery Tender?

Hey guys, usually when im working on vehicles i like to disconnect the battery for safetys sake. plus being an automotive student teachers love to stress disconnecting the battery for repairs, yet theres an obvious problem with this IE: Losing the time, radio stations, and even on some of the new vehicles with the stereo anti theft systems once you lose power you need to get the code for the radio etc etc. my question is , can one make a simple device to provide enough charge to keep these settings while having the battery disconnected. i figure it would pretty useful and i'd like to create a small device to do this but im just not sure if it would work.

any input would be greatly appreciated
thanks,
AJ.

They sell and I have one, it’s a 9V Battery on one end and a cigarette lighter plug on the other. You put on a new 9v battery and plug it in to the lighter receptacle, change out the Trucks Battery or whatever.
