I noticed the other day getting into the truck my side bolster on the outside of my driver seat bottom is starting to breakdown and the fabric on the seat back side bolster is fuzzing. I only have 2k miles on the truck. It's the cloth interior. Ive never had a vehicle do this this early. Anyone else having this issue?
If you check the 2015-up F-150 forums you'll find seat comfort, function, material quality has been mentioned. Ford replaces only Once under warranty, the rest are up to you!
Several have also complained the leather is stretched and worn in less than 5000 miles, then you have others getting personal about the persons weight or size or whatever.
From 2015 and up, including the 2017 Super Duty, it's only about maximizing Ford profits and weight reduction!
I don't have any wear problems but I can tell from the way it feels getting out that if you don't pay attention to sliding across the raised edge of the seat with all of you weight then its not going to last. I try to kind of lift myself up out of the seat rather then sliding across it just for this reason. I have owned a repair shop for a long time and I have seen identical vehicles wear completely different based on the driver so it does make a difference.
Just a note: when I first had my truck someone gave me as a gift some nice duarable seat covers, the outer was a colored work tan, but the inner side had a dark or black rubber type material, I suppose to prevent sliding.
While they protected the leather seats, after a short period of time I noticed my pecan leather seats discolor and turning black. Now my seats have Cooled and Heated perforated leather and the 2013 systems actually work! I think a combination of the soft black compound used, and the pressure and heat, transferred the blackness to the pecan leather.
So the seat protectors actually caused a problem! The leather on my seats, and the interior today, looks as good as it did when it rolled off the Dearborn assembly line. Many thanks to those who at Ford who designed and built my truck!
My truck has the medium earth grey cloth seats and at 3600 miles, I had the same problem. I took it to a local upholstery shop and they said it couldn't be repaired.
I ordered a new seat cover from Ford at a cost of $125 bucks. When I took my truck in for the recall on the trans (parking issue), I had them replace the seat. Total cost was $239 bucks. I bought some dark grey seat belt pad covers prior to replacing the seat cover and absolutely no signs of wear. I also use a large dark grey towel on the seat to minimize any drag of the seat belt on the bolster. I work in a factory and get really dirty some times so I don't want to possibly stain my new truck interior. So far it's all working great!
It's a XLT. My truck was built 12/16. I usually wear denim or cargo short material. I am very aware about how I enter and exit the truck, not letting my rear end drag to much across the bolster. I think the biggest problem I have is that I'm 5' 11" and short legged so I have the seat closer to the steering wheel probably more than others. The seat belt will drag across the bolster on the edge or non flat side of the seat belt and is kinda cutting into the fabric. Again, with the large towel and seat belt pad covers, my new OEM replaced seat cover is showing no stress marks. On my days off when I take the towel out, the seat belt cover pads are protecting the edge of the bolster and solved the problem. I'm not a big fan of aftermarket seat belt covers, I like keeping this OEM. If you do get a aftermarket cover, make sure to get as close as you can to the original color of your interior. A few years back a friend of mine put aftermarket covers on her new car seats that were blue/black and over time it discolored her light grey original seats pretty badly.
