DOH!!!! I hate the EPA

Sorry, I just have to vent!!!
Getting ready to take the radiator from my 93 F-250 to the radiator shop for a good inspection and cleaning.
Everything that makes this truck difficult to work on has to do with the crappy things the EPA mandated.
Tonight I thought it would be a simple job to flush the system, then remove the radiator. But no. You have to dink around with the stupid carbon canister to get to the petcock.
Then as much as I am a Ford Fan, I don't think they put any thought into how things drain. After finally getting to the petcock and breaking it loose, all the anti-freeze drained into the bumper and then along the entire length of the bumper.

DOH!!! Fine mess. Thanks for listening, or not!

Rich

It's all about perspective

So what your saying is,if the EPA had mandated the petcock to drain out into a clear open spot so the poisonous liquid could be drained into a bucket, rather than into the bumper, resulting in a mess onto the ground, your life would of been much easier today.

I zip tied a short section of tube to the P.C. years ago to direct rad fluid in a bucket better.

My carbon canister doesn't interfere at all.

Canister not in my way either. Place a section of hose onto the petcock nipple so it drains into the catch pan.

So I am wondering if I have a bit different petcock. Mine is somewhat heart shaped with the tapered end being toward the radiator and the wide end coming out flush with the end of the drain tube. I wanted to put a tube on it but the only way I could think of to do it was to split a tube and try to put it on the best I could.
Are you guys reaching it from top? I discovered afterwards that it would have been easier from the top.
I sheepishly have to admit that the biggest part of my frustrations were self induced for not cleaning my garage lately and having difficulty putting my hands on the tools I needed.
When I take the radiator into the shop maybe they can install an easier to tube petcock in for me.

Used to in the LMC catalog they had an illustration of all the carbon canister configurations available. It was a gillion of em'.

I can reach mine from the top by going down the outside of the tank by feel. (I have to stand on something) It'll fill the bumper up quick after about 30 seconds of full flow without tube.

I use a rubber hose (3/8" I think) about a foot long and put it on the end of the radiator drain. I've done it this way a bunch of times and haven't gotten a drop on the ground.

Well, I feel like an idiot. Should have used a light. Once I had better light I could see the petcock nipple. I had purchase a new coolant reservoir and told the counter help to give me a few feet of whatever fit the snuggest. He set me up with some 11/16 hose and it was perfect for the reservoir and the petcock nipple. I had also turned the petcock too far out, so the coolant was coming out the end rather than the side nipple.
I also learned that accessing the petcock is much easier from the top though my big arms (unfortunately not muscle) have a bit of a squeeze to get to it.

Long and short, Go in from above, use a 11/16 tubing if available, about a foot to get past the bumper, turn the petcock out only until it is come out of the hose and then stop. Subsequent draining of the flush were much better. And I forgave the EPA again.

As for the vapor canister, i believe it is fine, and removing it and the bracket gives me a chance to POR-15 the bracket and the frame underneath it
