how does any radiator additive get into the rad when the only place to put it is in the over canister? i see a tube going into the canister on the top right hand side of it but how can anything circulate through the entire rad?
You are correct. That is why when you want to add any additives to the radiator, you need to drain the radiator, put in the additive and then refill the radiator.
You will get a little circulation through the degas bottle, but very, very little. None, essentially.
oh great, i put the additive in the overflow already, well i guess i will drain it and then refill it. aaaahhhhhh stupid vehicles. ford did a good design feature on that one huh. well before i drain it tommorow, befor i even start maybe someone could tell what side the drain is on the rad, drivers side or passenger. this will save me at least a couple of min time. haha. so when i fill the rad back up, do i just pour it back into the rad overflow container, cause if i do then i still dont see how it is going to go into the rad through that stupid little tube, or am i missing something????

There is a much larger tube on the bottom of this tank that goes to the lower hose! It is where you fill the radiator at too. Your additive should get into the system fine. When the engine is warmed up and pushing a lot of coolant into the top tank of the radiator some of this pressure is going to come back to the degas tank through the small hose and mix in with the additive you have there and move it on down to the lower hose. Just test it in a week or so at the drain valve and you will see that the additive has circulated.

The degas bottle empties into the radiator from the bottom passenger side. Just drain coolant from the bottom of the radiator until the degas bottle is empty. That will pull the fluid out of the degas bottle and into the bottom of the radiator. Then top off the radiator with what you drained out. You will be fine. You might drain a little of the additive out too, because you are filling and draining from the bottom, but the drain petcock is on the driver side.
