Happy Saturday Nor Cal. Watched the news last night (Which I never do, there is never any good news on it, but I was at a friends house and they were watching it) and they say the excessive heat will be over by Tuesday of next week when the temps will fall to 97. Can't believe I will be happy to see 97. LOL
Temps are way down here. Last night was a "comfortable" one, as the OAT got down to about 70. Today, the temp climbed to about 84, but the wind switched around to on-shore, and now it's 70 again. Gotta love those on-shore winds!
Got home today from The Wente Scout Reservation just east of Willits. All appendages and bodies accounted for and delivered home safely. Went all week with no sunburn while wearing shorts and tee shirts and come home with a trucker's tan (burn) from the 4 hour drive.
Sauerkraut and olives became my friends this week to keep the electrolytes up since I was going through 100+ ounces of water each day.
Anyone ever been to Sunset State Beach? Or Marina Beach? Friends want to go to a beach for the 4th of July, and have invited me to come along. They don't care what beach we go to as long as it is the beach. I have not been to a beach since I lived in Southern California, so I have no idea what beach to go to. It looks like Sunset would be closer and it says there are picnic tables. I am guessing it will be crowded as we are not the only ones who want to spend the 4th there I am sure. Any thoughts on the two choices?
The dunes leading down from the parking lot is steep, Jim. As well, the parking lot is dinky tiny, and you'd probably have to park far away and walk a distance if not dropped off in the lot.
Heading a few minutes south to Del Monte beach or Monterey beach is a better choice, but will be more crowded.

Thanks for the info. So we will rule out Marina then. I will be taking my wheelchair, as I can't walk long distances. And I know it will get stuck in the sand, but it will give me something soft to sit on for the duration of the visit.
That definitely rules out Marina then, in my opinion. Getting the wheelchair down the dunes wouldn't be difficult, but pulling it back up would take a good amount of perseverance.
The beaches south of Marina, down in Seaside, Monterey, and Pacific Grove are a lot more flat and level.
I honestly have no clue about the beaches north of Marina, like Sunset.
You know Jim, if you are going down during the week, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is pretty nice. You will have lots of access along the boardwalk, even if you can't get down on the beach. The wife & I try to get down there once or twice a year and we have a great time just people watching. Weather is usually nice too.
The family that invited me has 6 kids and I am sure all except the 3 month old will want to go in the water. So, I don't know if Santa Cruz boardwalk would be what they are looking for.
