I run Valvoline ZerexHD ELC coolant (red). Anyone see an issue with that? Should I be running their G-05 (gold...like Ford)?. The ELC meets the International/Navistar standards as well as the CAT EC-1 among others.
As long as the original HOAT coolant was flushed out thoroughly before the ELC coolant was put in, There's no problem running it. HOAT does NOT play nice with other coolant types, even "universal" coolants. I recently switched from HOAT to ELC coolant in my current truck and spent the better part of the day getting the old stuff out completely before pouring in the red stuff.
I had Houston Performance Diesel perform the work. I brought them the 4 bottles of concentrate and they did they rest. Though it didn't take them near that long to do it. I hope they did it right.
I remove t-stats when I flush my trucks and drain the block before starting the flush. I can have them completely flushed in under an hour.
Thanks man. That makes me feel better. I just see these videos with these flushes that take like half a day and involves driving the truck with water in it and all this mess.

With the t-stats out and having the return lines to the degas bottle routed out of the engine bay to a bucket, all you do is stand there and add distilled water to the degas bottle until you see clean water coming out of the return lines into your bucket. With the t-stats out, it flushes pretty quick. Don't have to drive it to get it up to temp then come back and dump. That takes forever!
