I have a 02 PSD that uses the gold coolant. I think that during a flush I need 4 gallons of the gold coolant and the rest distilled water. I have found the Motorcraft brand but I think I read in here somewhere that Zerex makes the same stuff. Does anyone know the part # for the Zerex brand gold coolant? And if anyone has anymore insight to an upcoming coolant flush I would greatly appreciate it?
Isn't gold the extended life coolant? Whatever you use, make sure it has the additive in it. You get it from ford. It can ruin your motor if you do not add it. Basically it keep bubbles from forming on the cylender walls, from the high viberation.
New to the forum. Cannot do a search for some reason.
Anyway, just got my truck '02 F250 PSD back from the dealer after a flush and fill and they drained out the gold and put green in. Is this going to do any damage. I'm taking it back, but am arguing with them right now.
I'd make them reflush it and put the gold back in. It lasts longer and you don't have to mess around with the FW-16. They should have known better than that.
They are tellng me 3 mechanics say it was green. No WAY!! I am trying to find a way, via VIN or maybe a sticker under the hood or on the door or something to PROVE it was gold. I read in another forum that 2002's that have VINs that start with a 1 (like mine does) are gold coolant vehicles. Anyone else heard that?
check out this link. It is a document to all dealers talking about the switch and the date each assembly line made the switch to the gold. If you can figure out the manufacture date you can show the dealership your truck came the gold coolant.
The link doesn't seem to work for me, but I already had a copy of the bulletin. It says that all KTP trucks (which would mean all US built Super Dutys) used the gold coolant starting 7/1/02, which it also says is "2002 Job #1". Have your dealer check for QVM Bulletin Q79, issued 2/18/02. It also references TSB 02-3-4.
Well, even though they still think, I'm lying. They say there's no way to verify if my truck had gold coolant in it from the factory. I know it did, because it's the ONLY vehicle I've ever had with gold coolant. They are going to replace it and just charge me the difference of the cost of the gold. Just a hassle, having to drop the truck off again.
Customer service just seems to suck everywhere these days.
Even though I asked for it (misread manual to replace instead of "inspect" at 30,000 miles) they should have told me it was the 100,000 mile coolant and not to replace it.
I was wondering why you had your '02 in for a flush already.
Glad they're taking care of their screwup, even if it's reluctantly. Make sure they don't hack you on the upcharge for the gold, either. It doesn't cost that much more and they also don't have to add FW-16. I'd say it should be very close to a push.
This is why I do all of my own servicing! I have heard of other horror stories and the worst part is the dealership will rarely admit they made the mistake!
