Exclamation to SHIFT KIT or not to SHIFT KIT??

...that is the question; what is the answer??

Just picked up a '95 E4OD (RWD) "Lightning" tranny with only 33K miles on it. (Will be mated to '95 5.8 using factory harness/PCM in a '52 F3.)

I know that "ideally" a shift kit is always a good thing, but I'm weighing the pros/cons based on the following:

1) $$ (this is a budget build)
2) this tranny is low-miles and in great shape (reportedly) as-is
3) I've never torn into an AT before and am a bit reluctant (i.e. nervous) with sooo many parts involved!
4) impatience : I've yet to fire up the rebuilt motor and am anxious to just replace the filter (which I have ready to go) and fill it with fluid (16 qts?) so I can bolt up the starter and call it good!
5) I'm not building a race truck, tho will see some "spirited" driving.

Any insight appreciated.

The most beneficial part of the the shift kit for the E4OD is the upgrade to the pressure regulator assembly and the TCC function that is in the pump. So if you are going to do it be prepared to remove the pump and valve body at a minimum.

If you dont want add the extra work and are a bit impatient with getting this project running. I would just install the transmission as it is and get the vehicle moving and adjust later if needed.
