but i have a heavy foot and usually do about 77. 1000lbs worth of added weight to the truck. and according to the hours i idle about 40% of the time.
still, i check that little 5 minute bar graph thing and haven't ever seen it go above 20mpg. sometimes it gets right under it but i expected better mileage out of the thing.
Right now I'm driving a 1 ton Chevy SRW and it gets 18 to 20 on the highway. I just thought with all the investment and time to switch to all aluminum would have made a bigger difference.
It's my understanding they saved about 700 lbs going to aluminum, but they plowed 350 back into the frame. Making it stiffer and stronger. 350 lbs isn't going to get you eye opening mpg increases. But literally no one buys a 3/4 ton beast with 925lbs of torque for the mileage, right?
It's nice that I can cruise on the fwy and get an honest 20mpg... That's amazing. That's night and day better than my Tundra. But I'm glad they went with the stiffer/stronger route rather than chasing a couple mpg.
The Aluminum body does contribute somewhat to fuel economy but most of it depends on driving habits. If you buy a truck with 3:73.1 gears and drive at 75 to 80 MPH on the highway then you're not going to get decent fuel mileage. These trucks are designed for work not fuel economy. I know most of you drive in traffic at least the speed limit and in most cases 5 to 10 over. People seem to be in a hurry theses days. Leave 30 minutes early and drive 5 to 8 MPH slower and you will be surprised how much money you can save over a year. I can get as high as 20 MPG on the highway at 60 MPH. I rarely get into a hurry going anywhere.

The F150 is 700 lbs. lighter but the F250 is only 350 lbs. light with the new Aluminum body.
I test drove a 2017 dually the other day and the ride was absolutely amazing! Smoother than my SRW. Never owned a Ford before and am just asking some questions in preparation for possibly ordering a 2018.
Not at all...I read all of your posts since you started...all of them have been negative concerning Ford.

I went back and looked at Jbob's posts, you're so correct Ken!
Maybe he's being negative to keep his pocketbook from exploding... not a bad thing I guess if you keep saying to yourself "It's just no good, don't buy it!" when you really know otherwise deep down.
@ Jbob-
Go on the GM forums. There's the same bellyaching there also. It's just nature as the one's who are upset are most likely to express themselves in a Forum. The happy one's are out driving. Note to self; open garage door and exit stage left!
Me being a totally satisfied GM guy and loving my past Duramax's, I cannot say the build quality is that much better on a GM than a Ford. Actually, I think they are very close, and where one might excel in an area better, the other excels in another, I think this flip-flops back and forth. My buttons on my Ford are no worse or better than my Denali's. I don't see the entire button assembly pushing in etc (one of Jbob's complaining posts)
I made my decision coming from a perfect/pristine 2014 Denali. I mean perfect!. With that being said, I like my 2017 Ford even better!. No regrets and there are some things I did like better on the GM, but there's WAY more on the Ford that I like even better(er) lol.
I got 18.0 on a 1650+ mile trip from Jax., Fl to the Cincinnati area last week. Mostly interstate at a steady 80mph when traffic allowed. There was some in town driving involved, maybe 10% of the total. That was in spite of the re-gen from hell that happened right after I started the trip. Mileage went from 18.4 to 14.5 during this event. It seemed like it lasted for 20 minutes or so.
I think that's pretty darn good mileage overall for a gargantuan sized vehicle like we drive. (F-250, 6.7, 3.55)
KR CCSB SRW road trip Amarillo to DFW. Life time I'm right at 15.9
LOL, yea I have made that drive many a time and you certainly can hit some good numbers for sure.
I just looked at my numbers the other day before I put my rig in the shop for some minor issues to be fixed for the first time since I owned it, 8500 mi, since Oct.
Local driving: From my place to San Antonio about 35 mi one way on I 10, but plenty of traffic. Most trips are the better part of the day as I have lots of stops picking up supplies for business etc. 15.2 +/- .5 depends upon taffic.
5th wheel towing which is about 70%+ of the time: Winter: 11.7 +/- .3 [unless I hit a hard front coming in with a head wind. Summer 9.5 +/- .3 [this is due to traveling with dogs and stopping to eat etc, I kick on the 'High Idle' and it chews up the mpg. If it was not for that I guess it would be the same as Winter]

Tricon I swear we were separated at birth. My TRD Pro I just got rid of got 12ish mpg mixed. I'm getting 17.4 mixed driving the way I want.
My truck gets 14.3 to 15 driving in a hurry all the time.
My old 15 f150 ecoboost wasnt that great either .. im happy with my diesel i love the powerband, the torque is amazing dont really care for mpg as this trucks are not design for that
This has been my average on the highway and city combined with about 3 regens on it since I reset it.. my daily commute from manvel tx to baytown averages about 23ish mpg I take 40-45 min to get here rolling empty at around 67-70 mph.. I have no complaints
