Been reading several places that the mileage on the 2017 diesel isn't that great.
Don't know if this is true or not, but I thought the purpose of the all aluminum body was to help with mileage.

My everyday driving average is 17.4 hand checked. That is a mix of town and highway driving. For such a big truck I think that's great. It's better than my 1/2 ton CC GMC did driving the same places.
F350 dually...
17 ave empty, mixed driving.
8.5 ave towing a 21K lb 45ft 5th wheel toy hauler.
A gas engine won't touch this, but then again, we paid over 8500 bananas for these figures. But best of all, is the power and torque towing heavy loads. So I consider the benefit moreso as to the ability and comfort when towing vs the mileage, but don't get me wrong, I'd take 20mpg all day long!

Right now I'm driving a 1 ton Chevy SRW and it gets 18 to 20 on the highway. I just thought with all the investment and time to switch to all aluminum would have made a bigger difference.
70-75 in 65mph tagged highways. Pretty much going w the flow.
Upgraded my 5er tires to G rated, I wanted H but dealer had no outlet for them. So maybe after I rub out some on the G's I'll upgrade the 6 tires to H. I prefer Goodyears.

I hear ya, but remember the ad... we invested a good portion of the weight savings back into the frame........
And they did, the frame is much stronger. No more Howie Long twisting up beds and tailgate commercials anymore.
And my prior Duramax's have all done a tad better than this truck. In all fairness, this is a dually, so bottom line (for me anyways), I'm happy with my mileage. As said, the towing power is sooooo sweet, you'll soon forget about these figures and concentrate on just having fun.
I test drove a 2017 dually the other day and the ride was absolutely amazing! Smoother than my SRW. Never owned a Ford before and am just asking some questions in preparation for possibly ordering a 2018.
If I keep my truck below 60 I can get 18-19 easily. Once I get up to 70-80 it falls to 15 pretty quick. Mostly my fault though, it's hard for me to get my foot out of it at times. I don't know for sure but I believe the aluminum frame has a lot more to do with payload. Have you ever noticed the payload on a Ram? It's pretty low. Those trucks are made so big and heavy they use up a lot of their 10,000 GVWR on the truck itself and leave very little room for passengers and cargo.
I'm a Chevy convert myself. I still consider myself a GM guy but I'm really liking what Ford did with these trucks. I might very well like it more than any GM truck I've owned.
I've only had mine a month and put 1300 miles on it so I can't really say much about reliability but I figure that's why it's got a warranty. If it turns into a turd I'll trade it in in 3 years or so.
Most I've ever seen is 17 mpg unloaded on the interstate, doing about 75. My normal mixed driving is about 15. Loaded my weight is never the same, so it's all over the place.
