Excursion cruise not working...tried almost everything
2003 X body 6.8L V10 XLT
I have replaced the buttons in the steering wheel, the clockspring, the switch in the master cylinder, and checked all fuses. I do have 12v at the servo and nothing looks burnt around the plugs or inside the servo.
I have tried the troubleshooting procedure:
parking brake set
hold cruise off button, hell hold any button and turn the key on
press on, resume, set/accel, coast .....the cruise light doesn't flash between button presses, just once when the ignition is turned on, then every 10 seconds or so it flashes once......constantly
horn works, no ABS light, no air bag light, speedo works, brake lights work even the one above the back door.
the only electrical problems i know of are:
the overdrive button doesn't work on the PRNDL shifter, the instrument cluster illumination is intermittent and I deleted the fuel tank pressure sensor when I changed the fuel pump, didn't know i needed a California sending unit.
The theft light also flashes constantly when the truck is off
Check your grounds really good. On the 01 models, one of them is pin 10 off the speed control servo (black wire).
There is another off the BPP switch - Pin 1 (pink/orange).
My servo and connectors looked great too Ended up being the servo Got one out of 2000 to 2003 taurus at salvage yard for a few dollars and used it with my cable Worked as it should Cheap fix
I bought the brake switch and upon installation noticed the ford recall wiring was badly corroded and one of the 2 inline fuses were blown. I deleted all that crap and wired in a new fuse, checked continuity between legs off the switch....good, checked for 12v on connector....good. I may go back and look at the rest of that harness, and the grounds on the servo
Fixed!!!!!!!
I forgot to mention the horn was stuck blaring about 5 years ago so the guy at NAPA decided to cut the wire just below the harness in the column and run it over to a momentary switch he installed on the dash.
While troubleshooting the cruise with a multimeter i noticed the servo harness wouldnt recieve 12v when the on button was pressed, but it did have continuity.
After racking my brain for a day I decided to hook up that wire that was cut in the harness and presto 12v at the servo harness pin no. 5.
Hope this helps someone one day.
