I'm doing a zf5 swap on my 92 f250 that has a e4od. I have the ecm from the donor (96 f350). Should I use the 96 ecm or have the 92 ecm reflashed? Both are 460's. I'm not sure if there are differences between a 92 and 96 manual trans ecm regarding fuel mngt dash gauges, etc. Who does ecm reflashing if I need to use the 92 ecm? Thanks
Is the 1996 F350 a California emission (OBD-II) vehicle? If so, there is no easy PCM swapping.
BTW...there is no "flashing" function for a OBD-I vehicle. It's wholesale computer (PCM) swapping.
If the 1996 is OBD-I, there are still obstacles to overcome. Best bet is a ~1990 to 1993 computer to run your truck. There were ignition and other internal changes made to these trucks in 1994.
The computer has no influence on the dash gauges other than providing a ground for the Check Engine Light.
