Question

Hey, sorry to jump in the middle of this topic, but I have a 351w in my 91 f250 that I'd like to start building up. Where's the best place to start as far as bang for the $$$ and time involved? I've been thinking about headers and true dual exhaust, i'm running stock ex manifolds and 3" from the cat back right now. But I havn't done anything with the intake or ignition yet, and my spark plugs and wires are getting kinda old...

any ideas would be great! thanks, ben

Ben, get a set of headers and a good Y pipe and just bolt that to your current 3" catback system. that would give you the best bang at this point. running duals can sometimes hinder performance. also a cam would be good. you can contact compcams or edelbrock they will set you up with a cam that will be ok to run with your computer.

later

Thanks alot Where's the best place to order headers and the y-pipe? Should I just go to my local muffler shop, or order online?

Nobody has mentioned chip or intake, which is what people try to sell me all the time. Are they worth the cost, or should I just get a K&N filter and call it good for now?

there is only one aftermarket intake for our efi motors and thats edelbrocks truck efi intake. it kicks **** , but cost 550 + at least but produce good numbers. or just take your intake down and have it ported thats the cheapest but doing this will require a chip so the computer doesnt wig out from all the extra flow yo

Being a sport compact car guy as well as a truck dude.('03 Focus) I will say that the only increase a large TB will affect is crisper throttle response. If you consider that more power (I say it's seat of the pants feel) go for it.

your van probably has the HD351. I believe they had a bigger throttle body, injectors, and maniflolds/headers.

It is listed on Carfax and several others as the HD, I know it's a real road stomper.

basically look for a F250HD or a F350 with the 351, also double check the throttle body, it will be ~56mm. And the injectors are 24 or 30 lbs/hr. Mine are 30.

no sure. I would think the the cam may be a little larger to accomodate the higher volume of fuel and air into the engine. The heads as far as I know are stock 351 heads.
