RiffRaff E99 to L99 Upgrade Kit

I figured I'd get a weigh in here and see what you guys think, good or bad. I was looking at this kit on Clay's site and thinking it might be a worthwhile investment since this truck is staying for the long haul. It started by me lookig at plenums and finding out they won't fit the E99 without all the other stuff. I wouldn't do the turbo, but definitely everything else.

What say you guys? Dumb idea? Waste of money?

Here's the link...

It is pricey, but if you look at all of the quality pieces you get, the price is reasonable. Of course, you could substitute pieces for others and build the list yourself.

I did think about going that route, but then having it all come in a kit when I want it is tempting. Maybe I can find the parts off 00-03? I need to look. I just need the boots, plenums, and spyder, correct? But there is also the updated up-pipes and collector. The uppies alone are half the price of the upgrade.

I upgraded mine from parts I accumulated. I believe that you'll need to upgrade the pedestal and up pipes as well to make it work. I believe that when you add the plenums and spider you need the higher ht. And you definitely need later model up pipes to reach the raised turbo. Then you'll have to make your downpipe reach or replace it. Even though the old plenums are smaller they are not the choking point for the intake airflow. The CAC pipes are. That is one single 3" pipe to and from the aftercooler and two 2" plenum holes will pass more air than that. IIRC the turbo to spider piping is larger on the later stuff too but I wasn't really paying attention there because I was changing everything. I did experience an increase in fuel mileage but I had leaky uppipes and I also installed a later IDM so I don't know where my mileage came from.

Damn you Byron, you had to post that .. LOL, good read though. Go for it, I double dare you. If it was me I would go with new everything, such as the kit you posted.

I don't agree with z31freakify often, but it's a waste of time and money if you're just going to keep a stock 99.5-03 turbo.

I've owned and towed the same 31' trailer with both the e99 and a 2000. Both stock with a 60hp tow tune. The e99 pulled every bit as hard as the 2000.

I agree with cleatus and freakify. Not worth the money.

I like shinies just as much as the next guy here does...but I have to side with the Z31 and Cleatus camp on this one, a bit high for the basics unless your swapping the turbo out to the 38R....stock....yea no.....

For the price of the E99 to L99 conversion, you could buy a T4 Kit, plenums and a Borg Warner SXE turbo that'll outperform any drop in turbo. Not just outperform HP wise, but in EGTs, low rpm spool and overall drivability.

Winner, winner chicken dinner! Best answer of the thread so far.

If you are looking to boost up your power, see what I did there?

This is about exactly what I needed to hear. Much obliged. Sounds like a no go.

Alright, screw all of you cuz I do what I WANT!!!!! LOL...only kidding. I love this forum for this reason. It kept me from doing something dumb. I like the T4 idea A LOT. I'll have to think on this a little more. The bellowed uppies is what got me thinking this direction. I know I'll have to do them eventually. They are fine now, but just thinking end of summer and what I might want to do, if anything.

Thanks guys. It really helped.
