air intake upgrade

Just go ahead and get the S&B and be done with it. I went with the oiled filter. No replacements needed, and it is supposed to flow slightly better then the dry one. I clean it a couple of times a year. In fact, I think its about due. I just use the locally available K&N branded cleaner and oil.
As for the whole 6637/"Tymar" thing, I think it just really looks "ghetto" in this application. All of the ones I've seen pics of look like the filter is just hanging out at the end of the tube, unsupported, and looking like somebody forgot to put some parts back on. Then there is the whole debate about sucking in hot under hood air vs the "cold" outside air that is routed by proper intake systems.

I have feedback on the hot air under the hood debate: I was in the camp with the rest of the purists on this - the intercooler is about cooling boost, so it stands to reason getting air from outside the hood is cooler. This is true... at idle. Once you start pumping enough air through the system to build significant boost, the air drawn under the hood never gets a chance to warm up enough to make a difference on the IAT, let alone the MAT. I have conducted tests on 105-degree days to bear this out.

For me, I wanted a clean look and supported filter. I picked up a driver side E99 batter tray (metal) and bought the 6673 bracket. Here is my final product:

I went to a local Junk Yard and got mine for cheap.

IMHO having the clamp and not securing it to something is no different then just letting the filter 'flop' around with out the clamp.

I removed the foil on the CAC tube and it was not too bad using a wire wheel and a 7 AMP drill. I then painted both CAC tubes black to make the look even cleaner.
The 6637 mount is a great idea. I had not seen this before. If I were not so afraid of the truck/turbo sounding like a high pitched whistle constantly I would opt for this method instead of the Gen 2 S&B when I upgrade to the KC38R and 160/80 injectors.
I would probably loose my mind from the turbo whine though and start to hear it in my head even when not driving the truck.

Now I thought the dry S&B filter flowed more then the wet? Am I wrong here? I thought Rich looked into this very good and that's why every buddy went that route? I don't like cleaning the wet type filter, but if it flows more I'll go that route. I know on the K&N filter when it gets wet it don't flow very well at all. My neighbor had t hat problem when towing his 38 foot toy hauler.
