EGT temps

Just wondering for the son, his truck now runs very well. Thing is he tows to heavy. Going up the tall hills on hwy15 he see's 1250 egt's for about 15 mins or so till it crests out. It goes down very quick on top but to me, I'm not sure how dangerous this is if any. I'd like to see 1100 tops or even 1200. His trailer weighs in around 16K. It's 40 foot of toy hauler. He's got 40 PHP FICM tune and there unlimited tow tune. That's what they recommended. He really likes the way it runs. I still think he should go to the economy tune on the FICM. Thoughts,

He's running in the same window pulling grade that I run in. No more than 1250. Does he have the exhaust opened up? No cat and 4" will help get the heat out. What's his oil & water temp peaking at?

I agree with Pete, get the 4" Cat back, but cut out the cat too. But i don't know how much greater it will help, 50-100 degrees at most maybe? Also, I would get rid of the Atlas 40 if your towing that heavy up steep grades.

I have the Atlas 40, but I don't plan towing that heavy when I get my travel trailer. And if i do ever tow that heavy I will just take it slow up the grades.

He should probably reduce his speeds up those grades, sucks, but it helps.

Alot depends where his egt prob is placed, grossing 24k on long climbs at 1250 is not bad but anything he can do to reduce this is a benefit, might see where fans operating at temp wise, may need the manual on switch mod for fan clutch or the 7.3 clutch setup, ck water oil temps on these long pulls also. 15 min pulls is a big climb.

Water temps 225 degrees, oil I'll have to ask. Trans 170 degrees on scan gauge. EGT prob drivers side exhaust, I put that in. He keeps it at 3100 rpm's. He dose have 4.56 gears front and back. He has the BPD air oil cooler also. He loves the way it handles, I just thought long runs at 1250 isn't good. I'm trying to talk him into geting rid of the 40 FICM tune for the economy tune. I told him it wouldn't hurt to try it that way and see what difference it dose make. Rich on here has been a friend for a long time on FTE, and he also said to use the economy tune FICM. It was just PHP that talked him into the 40 tune. He also had PHP reprogram the fan last season because it didn't come on quick enough. They told him that was Fords new way to tune it, but it ran to hot.
