Cat back = lower EGT ??

I have a 04 PSD with a Predator set on the 65hp setting. I occasionly tow a 3000 lb trailer. I would like to install an exhaust system as recommended by Diablo Sport, but would like to only put in what is needed to keep the EGT down, so is a "cat back" system good enough for my situation or should I go with a "turbo back" system ??

Tom

I don't think that you could get the EGTs in the unsafe range towing a 3000 lb trailer.

I yank around my trailer loaded anywhere from about 9000 lb unloaded to 11500 or so and stock I can't get the EGTs into the unsafe range. With the SCMT on the Tow Safe setting the same thing is true. With it in the mid range setting - the Economy mode - which is I believe the same thing as the 65 HP setting on the Predator, I was keeping a very close eye on the EGTs because the trailer weight is above what they recommend for that setting. Still no problems with EGT seen during that one trip.

As you know, the truck barely even knows the 3000 lb is back there and I wouldn't worry about EGTs unless you have gauges and you are seeing a problem now. And if you are seeing high EGTs when towing only 3000 lb, then there's something else going on and you need to find the source of that.

If you do go turbo back, keep the cat in there.

ARe your gauges reading correctly Daryl? You must not put it to the floor very often then.

The bottom of my accelerator pedel and the floor see contact pretty often I routinely floor the thing getting on to on ramps and while pulling grades with the trailer.

I do so much short trip driving to work and back that what I can to burn out any accumlated gunk when I get the chance.

My gauges seem to be operating fine. The idle temps that I've reported seem reasonably in line with those reported by others given the ambient temperature differential between the various locations and San Diego. As for how linear the X-Monitor is on recording temps on the high side, I can only trust BD-Power.

From reading the various posts over the last year it seems like the SCMT does perhaps a bit better than the Predator on keeping EGTs low while producing good performance. But of course if I owned a Predator my interpretation of the posts would probably lead me to the opposite conclusion
