Hey guys, I'm a fairly new member, but have found a ton of useful information to help me work on my own truck. A good friend of mine recently had a large issue with his current truck that I am going to be working on this weekend.
His 2005 F250 (I believe is a 5.7) quit working the other day all together. Nothing at all works when the key is turned. No clicking no lights no nothing. The battery was tested and is in good working order, so I have some ideas, but am still unsure of what may cause this exactly. Hoping some one here may have a better grasp than I do of what may be causing this issue. Thanks all for your time and consideration!
I don't believe Ford makes a 5.7. If it's a gasser, it might be the 5.4.
Off the top of my head, it sounds like it could be a bad battery connection, master fuse, or ignition switch/relay. Do normal "non-ignition" electrical things work when the ignition is switched off? Headlights, dome lights, horn, etc?
Welcome to fte. The first thing i would check is the battery connection. I've got an expedition that did the same thing because one of the terminals didn'tnt make a good connection.
Under the assumption that nothing electrical at all works, the good news is there's not all that much electrical-wise to check between the battery and all of the electrics. Just check all your battery connections real good, grab a volt mater and make sure it's grounded solid, and follow your battery wires to see where you lose voltage.
On my 03 I lost all power also, I traced the + cable back over to the drivers side near the middle area for the fender there was a black plastic junction box. When I opened that, the lug on the battery cable had broken from corrosion and rust.
