I've never had one. After our trip last week my financial and social adviser has suggested looking into a cover that could keep any items we are carrying in the bed dry, secured and covered. It would also need to collapse (fold/roll up) enough so there is enough room to set up the gooseneck in the short bed and be secure and out of the way.
I am looking for a place to start and any suggestions would be great.
Jim,
No suggestions, but I have learned just today... On my past short bed Ram truck I have to completely remove my tri-fold tonneau cover when I have the 5th wheel trailer hooked up, but works fine with my gooseneck trailer. Make sure whatever you choose works with everything you will be doing or it may just end up taking up space in the garage like mine has for the past 3 or so years, lol... I used to have it on all the time, but when I took it off for the first time pulling the 5th wheel, it hasn't been put back one. I just sold my Ram and went out to the garage and saw the tonneau cover in the corner and kicked myself for not adding it to the deal when I sold the truck. On CL it goes.

All we have is a gooseneck horse trailer other than bumper pulls. I doesn't extend but a few inches beyond the gooseneck ball. So we might be ok there.
I bought a Bakflip MX4 quad fold for my short bed. It folds out of the way of the 5th wheel hitch no problem. Bought directly from Bakflip and installed myself in less than 45 mins. Saved Tax and installation $$$$. I Make sure you get the quad fold and not the tri fold. Good luck!

What is the height when folded? I looked at a tri fold and without even looking at the distance to the hitch with the last panel down I would of had next to no clearance to the trailer when in a sharp turn

Interesting, I didn't know there was a difference. Did you have to specify Quad fold or is that the MX4 version vs the F1.
When your Quad fold is in the up position against the cab can you see the Gooseneck ball in the bed with the CHMSL camera?
5 inches in the height when folded unto the four fold. I do not have a goose-neck ball but I can see my 5th wheel hitch plate no problem. The line on the camera also puts you dead on line.
Yes I asked them specifically for the quad fold MX4.
5 inches will be too tight for me I think if there is an incline. Our parks aren't very level where we camp and lifting the cover up to the window would be the last thing on my mind in those situations until it's too late
I looked at a lot of covers and ended up ordering the Access Lorado. Seemed to fit with what we wanted and have minimal interference with normal use. Only issue we will have would be dropping multiple bails of alfalfa in the bed. We decided since we have plenty of trailer options to just use those when loading hay/alfalfa. 150/lb bail of alfalfa hitting any of the cover hardware would probably be bad regardless of what we picked.
