One or more of my door switches is stuck in open position. Door ajar light on and interior lights on.
Interior lights stay on for about 15 min than go off.
I have sprayed all 4 doors and both rear hatch lock assemblies several times with WD40 and electrical cleaner with no improvement.
When I open drivers door there is no key chime with key in cylinder.
Could the hood switch cause this issue?
How do I determine which door/doors is/are the offending crimimals?
I would assume living in Wyoming you see a lot of dust or dirt roads. I would start by taking apart the hatch latch mechanism and cleaning everything back there. I did mine, it was caked with dust and dirt and when complete, never had the issue again.
There is sort of a process but I forget exactly. It has to do with waiting for the power to time out then opening a door, if the light goes on, its not that one......I think. Theres a post lurking about, search for it.
There is a procedure for checking our 2003 Exped switches, but when I tried it on the 2002 Excur it didn't work. The procedure involves headlights on, drive a little, park and leave engine running which puts the car's lighting in a mode where the interior lights will go off automatically. In this mode when a door is opened/closed as if dropping off a passenger the interior lights will come on then go out after 30 sec. Each door/hatch can then be opened/closed to see if the interior lights come on, the door that didn't turn on the lights has the bad switch.
The switches are left or right even though they look very similar.
There is a key on the housing which is in different positions.
The switch on my RR door had separated so stopped working.
The plastic half is crimped into the metal half.
I used JB Weld to hold the 2 pieces together and it has been working fine.
I'm having the same issue and haven't bothered to track it down as the EX hardly gets any use, but curiosity is getting the better of me and it's not winter anymore
There might be the outside chance that the previous owner has done some sort of mod to the doors. I have done two mods connected to the interior lights, 1-each door has it's own hidden switch which cancels that door's switch. And 2-I also have a dash mounted switch that cuts out everything with the one switch. Take a careful look around checking for extra buttons and switches. Or better yet, if you can check with the guy you bought the EX from.
Can't check with PO, he was in a hurry to get back to Mexico. Can't complain, only paid $800 for whole X. $200 for trailer to get it home. Just needed a motor and some TLC. Which I'm giving it.
Passenger front door has one electrical connector hanging free. One is plugged into the door lock actulator. I think the one hanging goes to ajar switch.
