I remember a thread re the automatic shifter being loose. I can't find it. There was something about a plate with torx bolts that come loose. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The shifter may have 3 different problems; loose or worn plastic bushing, bolts coming loose and on older models the column shifter tube design was weak could break.
Pictures on post #68 and #72 may be what your looking for.

 

Lay on your back, looking up behind the column and you'll be able to see the two bolts, the heads face the front of the truck. Mine were falling right out.

You're looking for a plate and 2 torx bolts that looks something like this.
