Hey guys, well my truck won't start and has no smoke. I know its not the glow plugs. I believe the HPOP is not getting any oil. Anybody know what could cause that. It fired right off this morning, ran for 3-5 seconds and then shut down and won't start now. It has been doing the 3-5 seconds thing for almost a year, but usually it fires up after cranking for 5 seconds or so and will run fine all day.
Other than the low pressure pump, what could cause this? I have checked everything else and i know it is not getting any oil to the HPOP. I even poored oil into the HPOP reservoir and it fired right of, but again only ran for about 3-5 seconds.
Check oil level!!!!!!!!!!! After its full if it doesn't run then check oil pressure . incorrect hpop gasket will let resivour go empty when sitting...ask me how I know that...

I did.
Well I ordered a new LPOP for it. I bought a high volume melling one from summit. Not to bad at 135 bucks. I also had a mechanic tell me to check the check valve just under the HPOP on the drivers side of the valley. Is under a 3/8 plug. I got the plug out, but didn't have a magnet to get in there to pull the ball out. i will check that this morning.
If the ball is there, you are good to go. What Adam meant was check your fuel to see if it has oil in it. If your oil level is low enough to not fill the reservoir, it's going somewhere. It is a legitimate thing to rule out. I know his from personal experience. You can easily check oil pressure with a $25 Harbor Freight kit and the plug above the oil filter. It screws right into that port and you crank away while watching to see if it builds or not. LPOPs are usually not the reason, but it could be. I would have checked pressure before replacing it, but that's because I learned the hard way just a couple of months ago.
