I bought another truck - a 2006 F-250 Regency Badlander. It's been stolen - no tires and wheels, no tailgate, no dash/radio, and batteries. The only thing obviously wrong with the engine is a missing air intake section. The part with the Mass Airflow Sensor and air filter minder.
I got batteries but it didn't start. So I put that intake section from my truck on it, and it still didn't start. Hooked up SG and see the ICP in the 200s and IPR is 14.8 KOEO but maxxes at 84 while cranking.
Generally, these stolen trucks still run - obviously, the thieves drive them away, and unless they blow up the engine, it still works. But, I may have gotten unlucky on this one. I've gotta bunch more stuff to check and will update later.
Being an '06, I'd go straight for the Oring on the dummy plug, passenger side on the front of the oil rail before pulling the turbo and HPOP cover to check the STC.
Just playing the odds here for ya, I've seen three '06 models (including my own) that turned out to be that issue, same symptoms.
Commie, no offense but I sorta follow your escapades and you crack me up. You must enjoy torture. Lol.
No offense taken. I post this stuff kinda thinking it'll be entertaining for some of y'all.
Also trying to show some doubters out there that old trucks still got plenty of life and they're worth taking a chance on. Don't know why anyone would pay $40K+ for a new truck when they can get a damn nice used one for $10k.
Seriously, I've made money on every truck I've bought since I started doing this a few years ago. This Badlander is going to be a bit iffy, there is more wrong with it than I estimated. But, it's for my son - his first diesel - and fixed up, it's a pretty nice truck.

Thanks, Rusty. I've still gotta check all the basics, but yeah, from that initial data, an oil leak could very well be the culprit. Thanks.
I've not done anything with the ambulance I overheated. Used the money I had budgeted for that to buy an F450 at a price I just couldn't pass up. The one sitting in my driveway, that I replaced the oil cooler and it would never start up again, is still sitting there. I have the money to fix it, it just irritates the heck out of me to do it so I'm procrastinating. Asked the dealer tech that's been so good to me if he wanted to take another try at it and he didn't sound enthusiastic. Gave me a MAP sensor and told me to clean the mass airflow sensor. He thinks the computer is, for some reason, not telling the engine to fuel.

I think that's dang near double that these days for a new rig. Good on you for trying though.
This truck sounds like a "stolen" rig reported by the owner who couldn't get it running and figured insurance was a better bet after stripping everything.

Yeah, the new Badlander lists at $82,000. I got this one with 140k for $5k. Already got a set of King Ranch wheels and decent tires installed for $600. Need a front bumper and grill - about $400 on Ebay for knock-offs. Then gotta get a tailgate and replace the right side of the bed and get them painted -$1200.
They took the carbon fiber dash and front door panel inserts, but left the rear door inserts - guess they had a standard cab. But those aren't real carbon fiber - just an adhesive film. I don't even like the way they look. Prolly just go back with black XL dash to match black/gray truck and seats. Need to find one with 4x4 and sliding window switches.
Thieves left the nice Regency gauge cluster though. Took the radio. I have a couple of stock ones, but I expect my son will want something up to date. The 06 Badlander came with a GPS screen unit.
Oh yeah, a couple of the fender flares are cracked and the ignition is broken and I had to buy batteries..
And if that is all that's wrong, it'll add up to more than I usually pay for these old trucks, but it's a little nicer truck and a great project for my son. But, I was hoping it would start up. Hopefully, it'll be something I can fix.
Which reminds me of a couple of questions:
I need to post pics, but this truck has smaller fender flares, not the huge types that look bolted on. They are more like the small chrome one I see except they have a hard black baked enamel type finish. Is that a stock part?
And the dash looks like it has two switches (two wire connector modules) where the right side insert goes - the one with the cig lighter. They actually left the insert (their truck doesn't have whatever the second switch is?) What other control is placed in that insert?
I saw the topic and thought, Oh No What now.
At least your not stuck out on the road somewhere.
With the 2006 it is a lot easier to put air to the HPOP
than the early engines.
I think if your going to keep doing this you should look into
a VCM2 and IDS software to help get answers to the issues.
What is the FICM output looking like?
One thought, Have the injectors been disturbed? You know
like someone taking out good ones and stuffing in duds.
I don't think this one is a case of owner-theft. Stealing the dash and front door inserts but not the back is strange. But more, the thieves loaded the bed with parts from some other car, and household trash, among which we found a bag with a bunch of drivers licenses and birth certificates - prolly an identity thief. Also, the truck was wrecked - the driver's side bed and front bumper.
I think the thief had it for a little while. Then wrecked it, took the easy stuff off, and dumped the rest.
But yes, I'd love to get an IDS clone. Have to wait until I get back on the road though. Been living off what I make consulting, which I hate and can't make myself do more than I have to, and flipping cars. Sold some property I had to pay for these trucks, but need to be frugal with that grubstake.
For the record, I really haven't checked into this engine that much yet. Just tried to start it while looking at my SG. The dash is off and wires everywhere. It may be that there's a security system or a blown fuse. I was just letting y'all know that I'd soon be providing more entertainment for your reading pleasures.
As always, thanks for all the help. Seriously, I couldn't do what I'm doing, and wouldn't even try again after breaking down in Chicago on my first long diesel trip when I found this forum, without the expertise provided by the guys here. This resource is invaluable.
