I have 5's on mine.....do they share the same mounting as 9's??? I have thought about switching but don't want to have to worry about extra holes........I don't have any 9's laying around to compare.......I love the look of the 5's but as an actual truck mirror.....they are useless
That's great! Thanks for the help fellas. Would anyone happen to have a set of 9s in Great shape they're looking to part ways with? Maybe in your heap of parts Rich
Pm me
They are NOT the same holes and there are TWO different TYPE 9 mirrors, as the span of the arms is different...which means that the mounting holes are in different locations.
D4TZ-17696-A .. TYPE 9 Mirror- Flat upper & lower mounting brackets - mirror arm has a 7 19/32" span.
D6TZ-17696-A .. TYPE 9 Mirror - Curved upper & lower mounting brackets - mirror arm has a 6 11/32" span.
Both of these TYPE 9 mirrors are obsolete, there are no D4TZ-17696-A mirrors available NOS
D6TZ-17696-A = Last MSRP: $58.33 ~ Dealer net cost: $35.00.

78 PEB, it is not your year truck but the 80/86 that use the "sport" mirror like you have use the same top 2 holes as the type 9 mirror.
You will need to drill 2 holes lower in the outer door skin for the lower bracket holes.
I bought new mirrors from LMC and the hard ware came with 4 nutcerts and bolts to install them besides the screws to hold the mirrors on.
Because PO messed up the upper holes, there is a backer plate there, I drilled them out for the nutcerts to go thru.
So I am thinking the upper bracket will use the same holes as your mirror.

I guess if you had a set of 7's and wanted 9's and the mount holes to change over did not line up, you could unbolt the 7's part #17742 (main mount tube) from the mounts that go to the door. Leaving the 7's upper mount bracket # 17B715 and lower mount bracket #17B713 on the door.
Take the 9's upper swing lock mount apart (I am sure it would involve drilling/cutting it looks to not just bolt together) and going back with a stainless steel bolt nut setup and then drill out the 9's lower mount rivet.
And put the 9's arm on the 7's door mount brackets. No new holes drilled. Make sense?

Challenge flag! Took my 9's off, 7's bolted right back up. No new holes, no surprises.
