Mirror

I have a nice outside rearview mirror, but I don't know how to install the thing. The mirror is odd. It has a rectangular mounting bracket that goes through a rectangular hole in the door of the truck. It some how bolts to the inside of the door. Can anyone help me with instructions, photos or suggestions.

Thats a good view of how it mounts. Looing at your gallery though, it appears somebody added a passenger car mirror on your truck. Even looks like they drilled holes to mount it! -4speed

Nice truck! I noticed from your first photos you had diffrent mirrors. Do you have any instructions or wisdom to help me install my mirror? The #&%@ mirrors I have can only show me the side of my truck.

Where did you get the mirror you bought and what was the part#? It should just mount the way in the photo i posted above. After you pulled your old mirrors off, did you see the hole? -4speed

I didn't take the mirrors off yet. They are mounted to low on the door to be covering the mounting hole for the new mirror.

You aren't making any sense.
Look at Speeds Picture & tell us if your mirror is mounted like that or not.
If so, just unscrew the two bolts that are shown in Speeds picture & replace w/ your other mirror.
If it isn't attached to the door as per Speeds picture, Please describe in detail where it is located & how it is attached to the door.

We are having a communication problem. The hole in the door for the new mirror is not there on my truck. To install the mirror, I need to know the precise location of the hole. I have no template or access to a truck with this type of mirror to make a template or take measurements. Bolting the mirror to the door won't be a problem unless I cut the hole in the wrong spot.

The doors on all '57-'60 F & M series trucks came from the factory w/ the hole already punched.
If the mirror wasn't installed in the hole it was plugged w/ a rubber grommet.
Mine was one such as this, Uncle had the adjustable arm trailer mirrors option installed on the M-100, so a rubber was placed into the unused hole.
Your are looking at the picture Speed posted are you not?
You shouldn't need a templet because the hole should already be there, unless of course a previous owner bondoed or welded it over.
Open your door & look on the insideot it to see if there is any trace of bondo or a weld job in the proper location for the hole.
That should give you a good hint about where it was & if it's just bondo, all you have to do is knock it out.

Chuck, somebody put 67-72 ford truck ones on there(picked up a LMC truck catalog and saw on the back of there!) Col is correct about all had holes. If the magnet still picks up metal right there, I can give you the measurements if needed. -4speed

Cool, and check out those 55 Fairlane hubcaps!! Good luck on cutting that hole. I would suggest a dremel with a small thin rotay cutting disk. Measure at least three times before you cut it though. John

4speed, if you can send me the measurements on this install, I would be very greatful. I can cut the hole with ease. Putting it where it should be and making it the right size is another matter. I might turn this thing into a curb feeler. Thanks everyone
