Transfer Case Leak
1. Profit
2. Everything else...
Sure, Ford...GM...BMW...Toyota...all auto makers would like to provide you the best possible vehicle, but the company is always going to come first.
So just because you (and many others) have had a bad experience with Ford does not make them any worse than any of the other automakers. For every disgruntled Ford customer heading to "greener pastures" over at GM, etc...there are just as many disgruntled GM customers heading over to "greener pastures" at Ford, etc.
I'm sorry you had a bad experience, Sleepy...and I read your whole post, and you did receive terrible customer service...but it doesn't change the big picture. You just got unlucky.
Neither did any of the Japanese companies.
Ford is (the last I looked) the #2 selling brand in all of Europe, behind only Volkswagen. That's what kept them afloat
GM's alliance with the goobermint goes back to FDR. Ford's dislike of goobermint goes back that far as well.
Look folks, Generic Motors soaked The American People and destroyed the lives of THOUSANDS of Americans. And it wasn't by accident. They knew EXACTLY what they were doing.
They couldn't negotiate with the UAW because they'd already given away the store and, once you give something away, you can't get it back. Try it sometime.
They were making absolute junk. Just simply -- Garbage.
Are they making an overhead cam engine yet that doesn't grenade within 10k miles or are they still getting them from Isuzu?
GM makes junk. Yeah, their HD Diesel motor is a good motor. Know why?
It's an Isuzu!
The reason they've survived for so long is because they make BILLIONS from goobermint contracts but don't bother to do the R&D necessary to make something worthwhile for the consumer.
Pushrod motors in their Light Duty Trucks and 'performance' cars? Puh-Leze.
Nobody on the Planet puts pushrod motors in -- Anything. Know why? It's 80 year old technology. Plus, OHC motors are more expensive to make. By a lot.
Maybe our GM apologists will run out and buy a Volt. I hear they're a real buy right now. And the Corvair. And the HT4100. And the V8-6-4. And the Oldsmobile Diesel. And the Citation. And the Caddy Cimarron. And the Vega. And the 180 HP, C3 'Vette. And about ten others I don't want to bother you with.
So Generic Motors keeps getting these billion dollar contracts from the goobermint and, as long as they keep getting them, they'll keep making junk.
Sorry, not explained very well but trust me -- GM is garbage as a company.
Peeps wanna buy their stuff? Go for it. It's your money
I'm done on this topic.
The fact that GM continues to build pushrod V8 engines in the Camaro, Corvette, and all their full-size trucks is a testament to how venerable this "old technology" is. These engines are simple to manufacture, simple to work on, are lighter weight, more compact, and still achieve class-leading fuel economy and power output. The 6.2L GM pushrod V8 is excellent, regardless of application.
Its clear from your vitriol that you hate GM. But not everything you are saying is true.
I have had major issues with a few manufactures in my life time. Nissan did not stand up to their product. Audi did. Ford did not stand up to their product. Volvo did.
For every company that does not stand up they loose a person and create a negative voice. Some may say unlucky others may say there might be something to it. I will continue for a very long time to say Ford does not stand by what it makes.
I have not heard a story in person from a GMC owner that has said GMC failed them. Everyone around me drives trucks. All my coworkers drive trucks. Most own multiple trucks. So I take that all into perspective. Since my dealings with Ford there has been 3 new GMC and a dodge to the work site. Not a single Ford.
I have 2015.5 Denali Duramax *and* 2008 Z06. The Duramax pulls my Z06 to Watkins Glen :-).
Regarding the Duramax, the only reason I still have it (and reason I watch this board) is because I am hoping 2018 super dutys add the B&O sound option the F150 has in 2018 so I am waiting to replace it. I have been a loyal GM owner for 30 years (first car to current truck. I have had SUVs, Trucks, Cars, and Corvettes (****, I even have an authentic 2006 #24 Chevy NASCAR). This is my last GM product (maybe another Corvette). This truck has been recalled many times, many oil leaks, Alison vibrations, body fitment issues, rattles in door and dash, worst ever ergonomics in a stereo/nav system (sounds great though). Next truck will be Super Duty. Hands down more options, tech and refinement. Good luck with the new motor in the 2017+. For every 1 person that has moved from a 2017 SD to DMax, I bet there are 20x those who went (or are going) other way.
Regarding the Z06, hands down best performance for $$$ out there. I have put it up against all flavors of Porsche, Ferrari and yes two ford GTs. Has been very reliable. It has 10,000 track miles, burns no oil or has had any issue but Nav that was fixed under warranty. Corvette is not really GM in may opinion. Yes, I hate the plastic interior, but there are not rattles or issues. You have to spend 3x the cost of a C6 Z06 to beat it at the track. Hands down. Ask the PCA why they hate it went Z06 owners sign up for their events. The C7 is different animal. The supercharger killed the track ability. They should have known this since C6 ZR1s don't survive on the track.
Just my $0.02.
this is the text I just had with my wife
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
They're supposed to be putting an OHC Engine in it this year or next.
Only about 60 years late but, for GM, that's not too bad
My buddy had a C3 that came with a Cassette player in it but it had a holder for 8-Track tapes. And 8 tracks were no longer offered in anything GM made.
Kinda like the Catalytic Converter hump in the Camaro floorpan they had for years even after they move the Cat to the other side and out of the way
Then, there was what GM did at Indianapolis. They couldn't compete, never could, so they got Indy to change the rules. Outlawed every engine except for GM thumper and a Nissan POS. Ran CART off. Killed Indy racing.
GM also was getting their buts soundly kicked in NASCAR so they had NASCAR (aka; NAGMAR) lower the maximum weight to 3,400lbs.
That didn't work so they went crying to Bill France and he allowed them to run a car that was also made in a 4 door...... Which used to be against the rules. For a while anyway.
That didn't work either so now, everybody has to run the same body.
This, with a motor that nobody in the civilized automobile world even bothers with anymore -- A pushrod engine.
I used to go to Daytona twice a year. I don't bother anymore. It's boring. I used to go to Indy once in a while. No more.
Now I hear that GM is going to bring to market an all-aluminum Pickup in the next couple years.
Next time you watch that phony-baloney ad with the concrete blocks being dumped in the bed of the Ford, watch how many of them break.
They don't. Because they're solid concrete. Looks like 8X8 blocks of solid concrete.
You gotta be quick, but watch
Somebody dumps that in my Pickup, he better be awful fast on his feet.
Many of you are either too young or don't pay enough attention to the crap GM has pulled over the years, but I am very observant and let me tell you --
GM just simply SUCKS
Nascar? Who cares, Nascar sucks.
GM has made junk for so, so, so many years...but so did Ford. Ford got their **** together a lot sooner than GM did, but I think GM is turning it around. We'll see. I have zero brand loyalty. I buy the best vehicle, for the best price, no matter what that is at the time I decide to purchase a new one.
The blindly following a brand is a weird phenomenon to me. They aren't a football team to follow and root for. They are a company trying to sell you something and make money off you. If you have zero dollars for them, they don't give two ****s about you, no matter what company it is. I've had Ford, Chevy, Toyota...all sorts of brands. The only brand to never give me a single issue has been Toyota. But they don't make a 3/4 ton truck, nor a diesel, so back to Ford this round. Next time, who knows, whatever is best for me at the time.
