Cleaning breather cap

Would kerosene be ok to clean the oil fill breather cap on my 54 and 55 239 engines?

I was just wondering about this last night. According to this article you should use kerosene.

Anything petroleum based will work, as long as you let it dry out in the sun for a couple hours.

That's how my dad always did it - Soak the breather in a coffee can with some kerosene.

Yep, any solvent will work, but Kerosene is safe. More volatile stuff works, but any residual vapors could be drawn into the crankcase and... let's not think about that!
