Cleaning a 223 oil breather cap

I need to clean the oil breather cap on my 223 six...is soaking it gas an ok method? I was going to just replace the cap but it seems that none of the parts houses carry one for the six. Thanks.

I would not use gasoline as it is one of the nastier chemicals to come in contact with - get some "Parts" cleaner - fill the cap up and let it soak for a day or so safely dispose of the cleaner then wash and rinse several times with "Simple Green" mixed with hot water and let dry.
