If any of you ordered the stowable bed extender and don't like it/ don't use/ etc. I'd be interested in taking it off your hands for the right price.
This picture is why i have hope that the old style still works. See how the entire tailgate is utilized when down and the bed extender is in place? The ones I have seen from others are not as useful with the tailgate down.
Many people using these on a 17 SD? They came with my 16 F-150, and the thing that drove me nuts when they were collapsed, was reaching in to get to the LED box light switch (as well as unlatching my tonneau, but that one isn't Ford's fault). I removed them on the F150. Ordering a SD, and wondering if these suffer from the same design flaw, and if they're worth the $250??
I believe the picture from the ford.com website is the 'old' style. That version is very useful and utilizes the entire tailgate. The new style does not extend out in a rectangular manner and you lose nearly 1/2 the tailgate's usable surface.
I suspect the reduced space on the side walls behind the wheel wells is why the design is different.
I have abandoned my quest for one and will stick with my homemade divider boards.
Personally I do not care for the Ford OEM bed extenders.
I had one in my 2015 F-150, and I hated the thing. It only used a portion of the tail gate when extended, and had a very small rear enclosed area when in the box.
I put a Amp research bed extender in my F-350 and it works very well.
I purchased from Amazon and installed in about 15 minutes.
It is far superior to the Ford product.
