I bought a new one for my truck from www.radiatorbarn.com for $150 and it was a direct replacement. Haven't had it too long but it did ok driving 2200 miles.

They were a pleasure to do business with too. Got it real quick which was good since I didn't decide to replace the radiator until 3 days before a trip up to the mountains.

What size engine do you have 70-F100?

I could be mistaken, but I think most F-series trucks up to the mid '70's use the same radiator. I just put a new 4-core in my '67, and I'm really happy with the cooling performance even without a shroud.

I think there are at least 3 different size radiators for the V8s. The 6 cylinder ones are even smaller and my 72 actually has a 6 cylinder core support with a much smaller opening. My 68 is a 6 also but I haven't looked that close at the support. I was getting a decent price on new radiators from a place called Performance Radiator out of Anchorage and I think it was a franchised dealer. They also made copper and brass replacements for some of the plastic and aluminum units.

I had mine recored instead of buying new for my 68 Mercury truck. New or record was about the same cost.

Be wary of a recore on an old radiator. The recore, might actually do the job, but a two core is still a two core.

Why be wary? Mine is a three core and was re-cored as such. The tanks are actually heavier material than the new rad I looked at.. a new 3 core is a new 3 core just the tanks are different.

Many older rad's were 2-core's and just aren't up to decent cooling, even a 3-core is borderline for anything other than a stock motor, IMHO.

I should have said, if you're going to re-core make sure the rad is worth it first. A 2 core just isn't worth it, you're better off buying a new 4 core and not ever having to worry about it again.

I put a new 3 core in a 72 with a 302. It took 20 minutes of idling to get hot enough to turn the electric fan on. (195) It should be plenty of radiator for all but the air conditioned big blocks.

I think alot of it has to do with what kind of shape your cooling system is in. I put a brand new 3 core radiator in my truck to replace the 32 year old one and it made a world of difference. We drove through Las Vegas in 103+ temps and the truck didn't even flinch.

I agree if your building a hot motor that you should upgrade to a 4 core or an aluminum 2 core.

My mom's explorer was "overheating" (actually, the water in the resivoir was boiling), so she took it to one of her mechanic buddies, and he put in an aluminum 4 core for $176!!!!!! That puppy is huge! It only has a 4.0 V-6! You can watch the temp gauge move when the t-stat opens. $176! Installed!
