Shift kit help!

1974 C6. Bought a TCI shift kit that I'm trying to install. First time doing this myself. I have the valve body out and separated. The first part to replace is the outer pressure regulator spring. I have the front plate off of the pressure regulator but IT WONT COME OUT! Am I missing something? How do I get the pressure regulator out to change the spring?

72 and earlier have a plate over the valve, 73 and later have no plate, it has a thin clip that holds the valve in.

Which one are you dealing with?

If you have the plate you may have to use a pick or something to carefully pry out the valve train.
