Early 4R70W
my question is what modifications can one do to it to make it shift better and get rid of that HORRIBLE soft TC lock-up?
as it stands, im pretty sure my 1-2 accumulator spring is broken, as the 1-2 shift is very sharp (scratched 2nd around a corner under heavy throttle).
the 2-3 shift is very soft, and the TC lock-up is slower than the 7 year itch.
So, i'm positive the right shift kit could fix the shifts up like they should, but i'm not sure which one to look at.
Also, will that do anything to get rid of the soft/partial TC lock-up strategy this car uses? or is that something that needs to be addressed electronically? As i understand it, the soft TC lock-up is on purpose and commanded by the TCM, so i'm not sure if a change in hard parts fixes this or not.
I'd be greatful for any help from the 4r70w guru's!
thanks,
Mike
TCCoA Tech Articles
and the shift delay (1-2 shift) can be eliminated by software & by doing so will also extend the life of the clutches
i was reading that night night and there wasn't much said about the TC lock-up, other than if you switch valve bodies that you would need to retain the TC solenoid that came with your transmission.
my main concern is the very soft TC lock up, the rest i know can be fixed with either a shift kit, aftermarket valve body, or the J-mod.
going by the article above, to do the J-mod i would need to replace my valve body with a 99& up unit anyway to address deficiencies with the 2-3 accumulator (if i read it right). if i'm going to go that far, i might as well get a TCI or something along those lines,IMO.
doing a Jmod on your existing valve body is feasible and I recommend it.
also updating the pressure regulator valve and spring is HIGHLY recommended on your model transmission.
