I think the whole front end tilts up as the hood so it should be easy to get to.
Just the hood tilts forward, got it running today, just needed time for the hydraulic lifters to fill with oil, pulled a couple push rods that were gummed up and ran it with the covers off. Everything is getting oil now and no knocking sounds. It smoked quite a bit after all the oil that was put in the cylinders. I added some trans fluid in with the engine oil to help clean things and free things up. I'll keep running it this way and do another compression test to see if things improve..
Time will tell, I knew I was taking a chance on this motor and figure it will get replaced eventually with a new crate, just not ready to do it now. I've spent far too much on this project in the past 3 years and most of it has been in the last 6 months..

I don't think you need to invest in a crate motor, what you have will do fine as long as something doesn't pop up.
Did the transmission come from the donor truck also?
Yes it did, C6. I drained all the oil out of it and changed the oil and filter in it. Was just topping up the oil in it today now that it is running.. taking tomorrow off and going to Dryden and will pick up some new plugs for it. It started to stall after it warms up but will need to check the timing and everything over. Hoping the more it runs everything will loosen up. It sounds real good with the dual exhaust..
