I have a speedometer/odometer in a 1998 Clubwagon that's not working. Want to pull the wheel and dash to get a look back there. Manual says I should discard the old bolt and get a new one for reinstallation.
Is this necessary? I don't mind buying a new bolt, but I'm having a very hard time finding info or a part number on one.
I just swapped out my steering wheel. The bolt looked no different after I removed it. I tried to buy a new one locally and could not find one, so I put some locktite on it and put it back in without any issues. My opinion only.... you don't nee a new bolt unless the one you took out is damaged maybe?
Found today that it is not necessary to remove the steering wheel to get the instrument cluster out on my 98 Clubwagon. Really pretty easy.
Just needed to remove six 7mm bolts (2 from the roof of the cluster housing, and 4 from each corner of the cluster), pinch the gear indicator clips inward, and pinch + pull the 3 clips on the back of the PSOM out.
Kind of common sense, but shifting the gear selector into its lowest position at 1 will help to create a little more space for removal and install.
