Intake and Exhaust.

So i recently purchased my 6637 filter and some 4" pipe and a couple clamps. Waiting to put them on till i get 4" turbo back exhaust.

Before i order my Exhaust --http://www.riffraffdiesel.com/mbrp-4-aluminized-turbo-back-w-muffler-delete/
I was wondering if i should get gauges before i put these on? If so, I'll get the gauges instead of the exhaust (Ivan only afford one right now).
I do have a bluetooth OBDII scanner with Torque Pro on my phone, and i can see boost, but don't have sensors for the EGT so i have no data. Can i use the app and scanner in lieu of gauges untill i can afford them? How accurate would that read? And i can install the sensors while installing the new exhaust, right?

Sorry for so many questions. My first diesel and i don't wanna screw it up. Thanks in advance.

Not necessary if your doing intake and exhaust only, you will need at a minimum an egt gauge once you start running a tuner.

Okay, thanks for the response! I knew I'd need one before i put a tuner in. That'll happen later this spring/ early summer.

If I were doing an exhaust again, I would probably choose one with a 3.5" diameter at the turbo that eventually increases to 4" by the bend at the bottom of the engine/transmission. It would then be 4" until it reached the junction with the muffler and the muffler would be 5" and the pipe would remain 5" to the tip.

There is no advantage to having a 4" pipe at the turbo and it does make the fitment a bit more challenging with the transmission dip stick tube and firewall all competing for space. There is also some research that points to the 3.5" at the turbo being more efficient. Stock is 3".

I recently helped install a Flo-Pro exhaust that was very similar to this and I have to say that the quality is better than MBRP. I was concerned that the 5" muffler -----> back to tip would create drone and it doesn't. EGT's are about 50 degrees cooler than with a 4" down and back MBRP system on almost identical trucks. The Flo-Pro is also less expensive and the clamps are much better quality.

FLO~PRO - 1999-2003 7.3L Ford Diesel Exhaust Kits

The bends in the RiffRaff supplied MBRP system on my truck were off by a few degrees which made the install more challenging. I eventually took it to a custom exhaust shop and had them bend the pipes to the proper angles.

I think Magnaflo has the 3.5" downpipe.

Below is a stock to 4" MBRP comparison. Notice how MBRP doesn't include the first bend.

This is what Magnaflow recommends for the best results for low end torque/power and is what I installed for towing my fiver. It will sacrifice top end HP a bit, but I don't plan to race with 12K lbs behind me.

Look at Diamond Eye and never look back, fitment is far none the best of any of the other manufactures, you think fitting a 4" down pipe is hard try fitting a 3" down pipe on any obs now that's a task.

I was thinking of going mufflerless. No emissions tests where i live, and i kinda like the sound of the straight piped 7.3s I'll look into other selections, see what i can find with a 3.5 down pipe.....Thanks for all the input, guys!

I tried without a muffler, and it was stupid loud in the cab, but maybe that was the tune at the time. I also have the 4" Flo Pro downpipe, no complaints about the dip stick.

Torque Pro, EGT, and Fuel Pressure - you'll have everything covered then. I went with dual EGTs.

Glow shift is what I use. A lot knock them for being cheap, but been running my 4 gauges from them with no issues for over 2 years now. A lot is going to come down to what your wallet can handle, and your tolerance for changing gauges later if one were to fail.....

Deleting the muffler isn't bad without a heavy load. Attach a 7000lb+ trailer and it gets a little loud in the cab. That's the only time I wish had a muffler.
