I have a 2000 F250 with the 7.3 I have done many exterior mods to my truck along with purchasing an off the shelf bully dog gt tuner. I am now wanting to start making performance mods to my truck and have been told to start with getting a better chip, gauges and a exhaust to help with air flow. I did some thinking and decided that that is what I would like to do but as well dont have the money to do it all at once. Is it a good idea if I get the exhaust system before the tuner and gauges to save money, and will this affect anything on my truck? As well I am not sure what type of exhaust system to get? Any suggestions?
First thing is get a set of gauges. If you are running any type of tuner you must get an egt gauge before you melt the motor down. Personally I would straight pipe or install a walker BTM muffler on the factory exhaust. It costs about $50+ install and makes a big difference with a tuner. Once you open up the intake (napa 6637air filter) and exhaust you will have turbo surge so you will need a ported housing($425) or WW($75). I would take care of those things first so you don't burn up your turbo. Then sell your tuner and get some custom tunes from PHP or DP tuner. Hope this helps.
The exhaust should be changed at or before adding a chip or tuner
I think most here have 4" turbo back
I have the MBRP aluminized since I don't run in salt or sit and admire my exhaust,it does make the truck run a little better since there are two major restrictions in the stock system,(down pipe and muffler)
You're really better off with a larger diameter 4" exhaust vs straight piping the factory plumbing. I don't really think the factory muffler is as restrictive as most make it out to be.
See I was also wondering if there were any that don't drastically differ from the stock sound? I'm just not sure if I want that loud rumbling truck, I feel like I might get sick of it.

I just had my Bully Dog 4" turbo back T304 stainless fitted today and must say sound wise its hardly any different to stock noise level.
Don't know about the other brands, but sure the other chaps will let you know.
Being in the UK I had no choice on brand, the bully was already here, but I'd not recommend it as I think its totally over priced and cheaper systems will bring the same result.
If you go with a 4" system get something reputable. I let someone convince me into buying an off brand 5" system with a 4" downpipe and the downpipe is giving me fits. Anyways, I didn't see that big of a difference in egt's but I'm not running alot of extras. Yet!
So do you wish that you would have gone with a 4" or you think that what you got was the wise choice.
If I did it all over again I wouldn't bother with the 5". Iwould go with this
