Just a headsup for those who want to run a Ford brand ignition switch. My ignition switch cylinder has been bad since I bought my used truck. It would rotate all around, you would have to fiddle with it to get the key out and the buzzer would sometimes stay on with the key pulled out. All the locksmiths in my area won't just cut keys for a new cylinder. They want you to bring the truck to them and let then do the whole deal. So I went to my dealer today and he said his computer only showed a ignition cylinder for a '92 as being sold with 2 new door cylinders-at a cost around $80.00. He was able to save me some money by using one for the '93 models which comes without the door cylinders at a cost of $50.00. He didn't know why Ford did this. He simply cut the new keys to match my current door cylinders. The only difference I could see is my '92 ignition cylinder has a chrome bezel where the '93 will come in black. While in there I took charlez's tip and disabled that annoying key chime. Later, Charles
Good stuff, thanks for posting, I have this exact problem now.
Just replacing the cylinder fixed the problem, right?
Yes, all I did was replace the old cylinder with the new one and it works correctly now. Been fine for over a year now. Also if you find the chimer as annoying as I did, definately follow Charlez's tip on disabling it. I can leave my door open with the key in and not have to listen to it. Great tip. Charles
This is funny.... I just redid my steering column in my F350, using one from a similar town car, to gain tilt wheel, and replace the black column/wheel with a red one, to match my interior.
Anyway, I spent a lot of time making the key-in buzzer work, because my truck is the only vehicle we own without on-the-door keycodes to unlock the door.
I cannot tell you how many times I've left a quickcheck, approach my running truck, just to find myself locked out.
This is a stupid question, but all you have to do is press the small buttom up from the bottom with the key in the run position and pull it out, right? I thought I noticed there was an edge on the cylinder that wouldn't let it pull out of the plastic trim when I was messing with my auto shift indicator cable, etc.
