i was wondering if anyone could help me out on trying to hook up an ammeter gauge or whatever you wanna call it. its the one to see that it is charging the battery. the instructions are very confusing water and oil pressure are already hooked up. just one gauge to go. the vehicle is a 67 ford f-100. any help here would be very helpful.

Run very heavy wire-at least 10guage. There is a lot of current through this wire sometimes and you don't want any voltage drop.
Run this wire very carefully. Use a grommet or something when going through the firewall, and be careful of the studs sticking out the back of the guage. You will notice this wiring comes right off the battery with no fuse. A problem anywhere along this wire could cause a fire.
After you get it hooked up, turn on the headlights or something with the truck not running, and watch the guage. It should read discharge. If it reads charge, just swap the wires on back of the guage.
A voltmeter hooks up just about any place you can get 12 volts (preferably switched) and to ground. It draws very minimal current. An ammeter connects in series between the battery and the rest of the system (except for the starter). You must disconnect all the small wires at the starter relay and reroute all that current through the ammeter. Follow Franklin2's diagram if you go that route.
