Replace that cooler with a cooler from a 2003-2007 6.0L truck. It mounts to the same mounts and is MUCH larger. The stock cooler you have is marginal.
You will need to get two adapters to go from your truck's 3/8" lines to the cooler's 1/2" lines. And hardware store would have barbed fittings to do this.
so if I mount a 6.0 liter transmission cooler in the same location, it's still blocked by the license plate. Anyone have any thoughts about this blockage? relocating or putting a fan on it?
Here is the stock trans cooler, with the 6.0 upgrade behind it, to which Mark is referring. Mounts between a/c condenser and intercooler above the bumper. Sounds like you are describing the power steering cooler.
oh of course. I haven't been under my hood in forever, and was going off memory and just thinking that summer is coming. Thanks for jogging my memory. I didn't realize the 6.0 cooler was better (I knew the intercooler was) Maybe I'll hit the junkyards soon and get a couple things... Thanks Gentlemen!
yes, I was just looking online. remembering how old one would be from a salvage yard. Yards ask so much for certain parts now, they act as if there is no "new" available. Along these lines, I'm also ordering other equipment I've not yet purchased, like an amsoil bypass filter.
-Ford states not to reuse the cooler because it clogs and there is no way to flush it correctly.
-there is research done that also states this from other sources than Ford
search online and find a new cooler, I got mine from great bear ford SUPER CHEAP

I bought a used 31 row and took it took a transmission shop where they flushed it and gave me the go ahead that it was ok. Now maybe I got lucky but it has been in for 3 years problem free. I did put a magnafine filter on the outbound cooler line to catch anything leaving the cooler.
