Wanted to see if anyone had experience with remote starters. I want to determine if installation of a third party remote starter will cause any issues with my warranty (standard + 6 yr ESP). Starter would not be a Ford unit. They don't list it available (2005 SCREW). Local dealer didn't perform install, but could take to another dealership (??????). Cost was almost $500.00. Local install shop is $225 for a Crimespopper brand - my wife has had one for about three years - no problems. Any experience would be greatly appreciated.
Buy a Compustar, its the the best one out there. It has a long range and works inside of builings. Its around $300, but well worth the money. I've had several different brands and this brand has been great.
I have a Viper in mine. Bought from BestBuy. Works like a charm and I can remote start from great distances. Think of front door at WalMart to the other side of the parking lot. I live in a two story. I can get up in the AM and turn on my truck from my upstairs bedroom, which is on the backside of the building. The installer took me inside the store and demonstrated how to turn on my truck in the bay. I was pleasantly happy with not needing direct line of sight up and close orientation. Bought for half than that Compustar.
The Viper has three features stock: Remote start, Remote start timer, and disable. Remote start means it will start right away and run for a pre set time. Standard is 12 minutes but can be adjusted to 24. The timer is a feature that will allow your truck to start every three hours and run for the preset duration. The disable is a weird function not really advertised. Here it is in the skinny: Key in the ignition, remote in your hand, and doors are unlocked. Push the button and it turns off your truck and locks the doors at the same time. Hmm.
The drawback is you have to hide your spare key inside the truck in an area that the ignition can sense it.
