I have one truck with and one truck without. The 4.2" display is simpler and provides all the information you need. The 8" is momentarily more pleasing to the eye but there is too much crap in in there. It is harder to navigate and is bloated. I am a techie but honestly the 8" sceen adds very little value IMO.
...Also the posting that details the premium package is WRONG too. The 4.2 " display is standard on XLT . The order guide that that it was pulled from is wrong. You will find the 4.2" is listed in the standard features of the XLT.
You appear to be correct, sir! The 4.2" PD is also listed in the 2017 SD Brochure and an XLT standard item.
Some F-150 XLT guys are doing 8" cluster swaps from salvaged trucks (or buying new clusters). It's not plug and play, but with FORScan and a mileage reprogram from a competent shop, it's fairly easy and mostly painless. SD guys tend to be less into "flash" so this mod may not gain a great following here, but it is something to think about if you really want the 8" in your XLT, and without the extra "driver's assistance" stuff in the early XLT builds.

I've corrected my original list above.

Jim, all is good, Ford has done a lousy job on their documentation and contradicts itself all over the place. If I hadn't studied and over analyzed my order I wouldn't have caught it either. I went through the exact same thing as the OP.
