Hi guys, so I have a 1983 Ford F-100 and I recently have been working on it. So my issue right now is that the starter won't disengage plus the key is stiff and has to be turned out of start position to run. So I replaced key lock cylinder and ignition switch then lubricated the lower actuator and yet still having issues with both key and starter. Also there is almost no difference between start and run with respect to key position. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated thanks
If you pop the lock out and reach in with a tool to turn the ignition switch actuator, does it move freely? If so it's a bad lock, if not it's a bad switch.

I have replaced both but with that being said it seems like it's starting before it's supposed to in key position because if you keep turning it then it gets to the place where it springs back from start to run. I have checked position on ignition switch and it's installed in lock
Low battery voltage will cause the starter to stay engaged. Aa will the crappy solenoids they sell today. Don't cheap out on a starter solenoid, you get what you pay for.
Yeah I have checked basic stuff like battery and solenoid. All of that is normal and tested with voltmeter. Also I checked to see if starter was getting power from solenoid besides while cranking and that checked out correctly also
You can check those crappy solenoids all day long and they'll show as good. That doesn't tell you they stick when you apply the amps through it.
That's why I tested with a voltmeter because solenoids cant give out false readings then. However with that being said I have tried with three different solenoids
I went through this a couple years ago with my 77 Comet. Bought three brand new ones at the local O'Reilly's that all stuck open after a few starts. Think I bought one from one of the Mustang Venders that finally worked like it should. They're not all made like they used to be. I don't recall what brand I ended up with but it was US made.
